Photo Electronics is a new exhibitor at InPrint 2016. We talked to Sales Manager Adriano Zanardo about the development of the company and their technical choices regarding the Droled UV LED lamps.
Why has Photo Electronics decided to focus on UV LED?
We have begun to develop UV LED projects following the numerous market requests coming from inks manufacturers and formulators and from clients manufacturers of machines for decorative printing.
Which applications are Droled lamps used for?
At InPrint in Milan, Photo Electronics will be present with the wide range of Air Cooled UV LED Droled lamps, used in decorative printing applications, such as Inkjet Multi – Pass and Single – Pass, 3D printing and silkscreen printing.
The range includes models suitable for the pinning of the UV inks and proper models for complete and full curing polymerizations with high-intensity.
What are the technical choices for Photo Electronics for UV LED technology?
Since the beginnings of the UV LED Droled lamps development, back in 2009, the strategic choices that Photo Electronics has decided to take have been focused on the attainment of reliable solutions and with high performances.
We have chosen to realize the Droled lamps using the only Chip on Board (COB) technology, aware of the productive and of process difficulties, to which we will have to face.
This choice has allowed us to get low thermal resistances between diodes and environment, with the advantage to maintain the diodes at low temperatures during their functioning.
As well-known from the experts of electronics and microelectronic, this can be translated in extension of the life of the semiconductor and reduction of its UV emission decadence over time. This technology allows us to reach elevated power densities emitted by the LED diodes, to this day 16 Ws / cm², maintaining an high level of reliability of the whole system.
Why the choice of the air cooling system on the Droled lamps instead of the water cooling system?
Really this is for the simplicity of management and integration inside processes, the air cooled lamps don't need a chiller, so the potential formation of condensation in moist environments is therefore avoided. Furthermore the chiller would need ordinary maintenance.
Why the choice to implement different optical systems in the UV LED Droled lamps?
It is always been necessary to have the possibility to model the optical radiation that comes out from the UV LED lamps according to the requirements of the specific applications. And it is from this necessity that Photo Electronics has developed different optical systems, starting from the awareness that it is not enough to declare a value of peak irradiance, expressed in W/cm², to characterize the power of a lamp.
