A report following an extensive survey exploring opportunities in the growth market in décor printing for interiors has just been published – and concludes that the next two years will be significant for the sector.
The survey was conducted in July and August this year by InPrint, the industrial print show, in collaboration with I.T.Strategies, TCM Conference Management and IMI Europe. The resulting report, the InPrint Décor Survey & Report 2016, provides the industrial print community with insights into the challenges and opportunities in this important sector and the potential for growth in the application of inkjet to décor production.
More than 100 responses to the survey from around the world have been analysed to complete the report. Responding organisations included technology owners, industrial production companies, flooring and wallpaper manufacturers and the entire supply chain.
Décor sector poised for growth
The report finds that décor is poised to be the next biggest area for growth for industrial inkjet, developing alongside analogue processes to create its own market. Walls/wallpapers, custom prints for both retail and domestic use plus flooring are among the segments felt likely to offer the strongest potential for digital/inkjet technology. Its ability to be cost-effective over short runs and to offer design flexibility are among perceived benefits.
Responses also suggest that a lack of expertise and knowledge by potential users may be holding back the adoption of inkjet in this market, together with perceived costs of ink and technical concerns over printing onto challenging surfaces. The report’s findings imply that suppliers of digital/inkjet technology need to do more to communicate its considerable benefits.
